About Lynne Mitchell

I was born in Northumberland and as a child travelled widely, to Canada and then to Iraq, Ghana, and throughout Europe. I was educated at St. Anne’s School, Windermere, where I first developed my interest in painting and drawing, and I gained diplomas from the Royal Drawing Society. During this time I also exhibited in London at the Children’s Royal Academy.

After my marriage, art took second place to raising children, but in the 1990s as they left home, I went back to watercolour painting. I studied under the artist and illustrator Ben Manchipp (www.manchipp.com) in Reigate, Surrey, where I exhibited my works every year. In 2000 my husband and I bought a French holiday home, an old railway cottage. By the following year the bug had bitten, so we decided to take the plunge and move permanently to France.

We now live on the edge of a pretty village, an ancient circulade not far from the historic cities of Limoux, Mirepoix and Carcassonne, with stunning views of the Pyrenees across the southern horizon. There is lots of inspiration for painting in the countryside here, including the villages and flowers of this beautiful, rural region of France. I produce watercolours from which I offer quality prints; some of my original paintings are also for sale.

I still exhibit widely. I had a show recently back in London, and throughout the year I exhibit in local villages close to our home in the Languedoc region of France. In 2006, following a successful exhibition, I was invited to paint a picture to be hung in the Mairie of a neighbouring village. A real honour for me!

Mirepoix is one of several beautiful historic towns in this part of France, which make excellent subjects for painting.
